I first made this dessert for the Broncos vs Seahawks Super Bowl and it was such a hit! Thank God, because the game itself was a complete disaster. Puppy Chow is something I had a few times growing up, but it always makes people so happy. The traditional recipe is a little on the sweet side for me, so I make a regular recipe that has each piece coated in the white chocolate/peanut butter mixture, and then add a few cups of plain rice chex to the mix to help spread out the sweet. You can play all you want with M&M colors to make this easy snack themed to any occasion you want. Serve it in a big popcorn tub with little dixie cups at a party to keep everyone’s hands from being a mess.
White Chocolate Peanut Butter Puppy Chow
Makes: 7 cups of mix, or enough for 6-8 people
1 cup white chocolate chips
2/3 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp sea salt
9 cups Chex cereal separated
2 1/2 – 3 cups powdered sugar
M&Ms for mixing in, color coordinated if you wish
- Heat the butter, peanut butter, and white chocolate chips in a pot over low heat. Stir constantly to keep any from sticking to the bottom of the pan. When the chips are totally melted, add the vanilla and salt, and stir to combine. Remove from heat immediately.
- Pour 6 cups of the cereal into a large bowl, and drizzle the peanut butter/chocolate mixture over the top. Use a spatula to gently fold together so that all of the cereal is coated. If there is excess liquid at the bottom of the bowl, add more cereal to sop it up.
- Add the powdered sugar one cup at a time, tossing to evenly combine and coat. Once evenly combined, add the remaining 3 cups of cereal to help spread the sweetness. Add the M&Ms or any other candy variation and serve.
